Why Pig, Chicken & Cow?
Pig, Chicken & Cow is a playful nod to the Brothers Grimm’s The Bremen Town Musicians: a band of ageing animals who set off for Bremen to become musicians and
begin again. Along the way, they come upon a house occupied by robbers. Climbing onto one another’s backs, they turn themselves into one gloriously absurd
“monster” and frighten the robbers away. They never reach Bremen, their imagined utopia. Instead, they settle into the house and live happily together—finding,
quite by accident, the life they had set out to seek.
We fell in love with the story’s humour, unlikely friendships and quiet hope. So we chose three ordinary animals, with simple English names that could travel easily
across languages: Pig, Chicken & Cow.
Our silk scarves are canvases for that same spirit: art, playfulness and the freedom to imagine. A small reminder that each of us can make a little utopia of our own.
The artists behind the silk
Pig, Chicken & Cow began in London in 2016, with a simple wish: to give our drawings a life beyond the page.
Our silk scarves are worlds of their own, filled with intricate details and stories that reveal themselves slowly. We love the way an illustration changes as silk folds
and moves—how one small detail comes into view while another disappears. Worn, treasured or displayed, each piece becomes part of someone else’s story.
Behind the brand are two illustrators, Shan Jiang and Ying Wu, brought together by a desire to explore what their artwork could become. Shan’s work includes
projects for Hennessy, Valextra, NASA and Apple. Ying studied at the Royal College of Art and previously worked as an illustrator for Alexander McQueen. Together,
they bring their individual imaginations to a shared canvas.
Designed in the UK and made in the UK and Italy, our scarves bring drawing and craftsmanship into everyday life. We give as much thought to the finished piece as
to the illustration it carries, creating something to return to, look closer at, and enjoy for years.
